CHAPTER 01Industry outlook

A high level of demand for vacuum thin film deposition technology is expected to continue in a wide variety of fields.
Our current task is to determine which market we should target.

Vacuum thin film deposition technology, which Shincron specializes in, is in demand in a wide variety of fields and has tremendous potential. Initially, a lot of our vacuum thin film deposition systems were adopted for use in optical systems such as ophthalmic and camera lenses. After that, with the growth of electronic components, smartphones, and tablet device markets, our systems have been used in a wider range of fields. It can be said that vacuum thin film deposition technology will never disappear from the world, because it is applicable to all kinds of fields ranging from potato chip bags to semiconductors.

So, which market should we enter next? This is the theme we should consider today. As we have a core technology that is applicable to a wide range of fields, we can contribute to market growth by providing products and services that fit customer demands. We consider we have opportunities in any market.

CHAPTER 02The person whom Shincron wants

Shincron is looking for those who have a spirit of making proposals and solving problems on their own, and who also take on challenges while involving their team members.

Shincron, trying to pioneer a new future, is looking for those who can take the initiative in solving problems. With constant changes in the capital equipment industry, the market can no longer be quite the same as before. Therefore, we are attracted to those who can figure out the next step while considering such circumstances and take voluntary actions.

I ask my employees to approach their work from the perspective of “launching a business of their own” and “running their own business”. Of course, as we are a capital equipment manufacturer, we need human resources who engage in various types of jobs, and it is too difficult for a single person to accomplish anything alone. We need to work as a team. Therefore, if employees have an idea about the market that we should target next, a new technology to develop, and so on, I would like them to suggest the idea to their team members and get the team involved. If you are someone who is willing to challenge and pioneer together with your team members, Shincron welcomes you.

CHAPTER 03Working environment

Placing importance on communication where we can mutually exchange opinions.
What is important about training is to build a relationship as a team.

I think most of the matters that trouble people are attributable to human relations. The reason why people quit their jobs is because they are troubled over relationships with others rather than their job performance and evaluation. For this reason, our managers and leaders place emphasis on smooth communication with team members. It is not one-way communication but a sound relationship where anyone can say whatever they wish to everyone. I think this is essential for employees to take root in the company.

If you join Shincron to work in sales or engineering, for example, you will receive training at the Yamagata Plant or Research and Development Department, and so on. The primary purpose of the training is to make good fellowships with the staff in each section to build a good relationship. It is of course necessary to learn about the products that you will sell, but what is more important is to know each other and build a relationship that enables you to talk about anything. Although sufficient time is spent on training considering the employees’ career plan, I think it is difficult to learn all of our technologies in the limited amount of time. Shincron’s employees work in a teamwork setting where anyone can ask others if they have any questions.

CHAPTER 01Innovation of Shincron’s technologies

We realized the production of optical thin films through sputtering.
RAS expanded the possibilities of thin film production.

There are many technologies that are currently industry standards but were actually realized by Shincron for the first time, and one of them is RAS (Radical Assisted Sputtering). In the past, not only was there almost no choice but to produce optical thin films through vacuum deposition, but also skill and expertise were required. However, due to the development of RAS, production and mass production of optical films without advanced professional skills became possible. As a result, it became possible for electrical appliance manufactures and foreign emerging manufactures to produce optical thin films that could be produced only by manufacturers specializing in optics. This expanded the application range of optical thin films.

Although RAS was born approximately 20 years ago, its importance seems to be increasing more than ever. While RAS was originally employed for optical components such as filters used in optical devices including cameras, demand has been increasing in the field of mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet devices in recent years. Speaking about the future, RAS is expected to be employed more in the automobile industry which will undergo a drastic change. In particular, a lot of cameras and sensors are involved with autonomous driving technology. As more sophisticated thin films are expected to be developed for each of them, it would appear that RAS will be used in many more fields.

CHAPTER 02Shincron’s future vision

Proceeding production processes using systems’ own judgments.
Our smart machine concept that solves the shortages of engineers

If an increase in automatization and a reduction in manpower on all sites is a trend of the times, we at Shincron consider that we should take up the challenge of automatization and manpower reduction of thin film forming systems. Particularly, in Japan, we anticipate that the falling birthrate and greying of the population will continue, the working population will decrease, and a shortage of engineers will become a serious problem. We heard that there is a shortage of production engineers even in China, which is now a great manufacturing nation. As a production system manufacturer, we would like to challenge the development of systems that do not bother engineers. If the production processes themselves can be proceeded by using a systems’ own judgement and engineers can focus on creating ideas, both productivity and creativity can be increased. This is our “smart machine concept” as the production environment for the new era.

In addition, our systems have been used mainly in the optics field, but they are increasingly being used in other fields such as the electronic component field. We would like to further accelerate this trend toward the expansion into other fields and industries. We expect that a new innovation will be created by applying and expanding our technologies into entirely different fields.

CHAPTER 03Shincron’s identity

We have survived for 70 years with our technologies and ideas.
Our DNA will be inherited.

Shincron has been at the forefront as a leading manufacturer in the industry for 70 years by making full use of our optical thin film forming technologies. I joined Shincron more than 10 years ago, and I was attracted to this company’s demonstrated technological capabilities that have been enhanced over a long period of time. I feel happy to think that as an engineer, I may be able to solve problems in the world and create new things by mixing the company’s technological capabilities with my ideas. Actually, I believe Shincron can provide such opportunities.

Shincron is now in the process of creating an environment to fulfill engineers’ hopes to meet the demands of the society and industry with their technologies. A part of this is the marketing team in the Development Department. This is a system that allows engineers to visit customers to understand their needs from the viewpoints of engineers and share them within the department. In fact, a wide variety of engineers with expertise gather in the production system industry. Although various ideas are created only by having discussions among such engineers, bringing customer needs into such discussions generates a lot of hints of new products. Shincron will never fail to foster a creative environment for further enhancement of our technological capabilities.
