Deterioration of MP condensers

Case example

The MP (Metallized Paper) condensers, employed in the relay exhaust control type control panel that is equipped with a 200 V AC control system, may blow out due to deterioration after many years of use, leading to a secondary disaster in some rare cases.

Cause

Over 20 years have passed since the exhaust control panel employing a 200 V AC relay was shipped. This control panel employs 6 – 12 MP condensers for relay self-maintenance, and these condensers may blow out in some rare cases if their internal pressure increases due to a sudden increase in their temperature, resulting from the deterioration of the insulating material after many years of use.

Countermeasures

It is recommended that customers using the 200 V AC relay exhaust control type control panel replace the MP condensers with the following one:
